What is GO?

GO  stands for "Gifted Online". It is an interactive online version of One Day School.  After 5 years of operation it is time to review and re-develop the site and its provisions for gifted online learners, and the trial of the new programme will be held in term 3, 2008. It is expected that the new site will be open to all by term 4. That gives you enough time to inquire, apply, be assessed and be ready to GO by September 2008!

Our GO coordinator is Kathy Williams.

How does it work?

GO has its own special website. GO students work  in "classes" of 12, all about the same age, as in One Day School, but coming from all over  New Zealand.

Classes meet each week on the website in the GO chatroom to discuss their current learning theme. Children have a range of both online and offline activities to choose from, and can meet with the GO programme teacher in the website mentor room, use the website bulletin board for reference,  access the newspage or research links checked by the GO programme teacher, publish their work and talk with each other via email.

Each child has his or her home page. (All parts of the site are password-protected in the interests of safety).

You will soon be able to visit the new GO website and see for yourself exactly how it works.

How is it different from other websites?

We believe GO is unique in New Zealand.  It is not just about "information technology". It is about  using computers to bring like minds together to share ideas and interests, challenge each other's thinking, experience  true peer companionship and build lasting friendships. Like One  Day School, GO cares about the whole child and understands the need gifted children  have to meet others like themselves.

How was it developed?

The Centre put a proposal to the Ministry of Education's contestable funding pool to develop such a programme. It was awarded the funding needed to build the website and to help monitor the programme's development for the first three years.

Who can join?

GO was specially developed to help gifted children living in isolated or rural communities or other areas where there is not a One Day School.

How much does it cost?

As with One Day School fees, there is a cost-recovery charge. It is slightly lower than One Day School fees because GO does not need to rent classroom space or purchase equipment and resources.

The pricing for children enrolled using the new site will be published by August 2008, but it will be NO MORE THAN $450.00 per term.

How can we apply?

Contact our GO coordinator, Kathy Williams , and she will post an application pack out to you.
